Samples were harvested after inoculation for 4, 7, 10, 14 days in CIM and 1, 3, 5 and 7 days in RM.
We found no evidence for a QTL in the middle of 3R in the F17 IM analysis similar to that we identified with CIM in the F2, either due to low power to detect it in the F17 or because the F2 CIM QTL was an artifact (we did not routinely map this QTL when varying the analysis parameters for CIM).

The following antibodies were used: rabbit anti-AIR-2 (Schumacher et al., 1998), rat anti-SMC-3 (Chan et al., 2003), rabbit anti-REC-8 and SCC-1 (Novus Biologicals, Littleton, CO), and mouse anti-REC-8 (CIM, Arizona State University).
In this study, these two QTL had the log of odds likelihood LOD scores of 3.5 and 7.9 (CIM), and accounted for 4.8 and 11.9% of the variation in lesion length, respectively (Table 1).
