For this study, 12 BIF and 17 healthy children, matched for sex and age, underwent an overnight PSG recording.
In [ 73] BIF was used for sparse learning.
The probes Eub 338, Bif 164, and Enterobact D, were used for total bacteria, bifidobacteria, and Enterobacteriaceae, respectively [ 28].
On the other hand, after apoptotic stimulation other Bax-interacting proteins, such as p53 [ 169] and Bif- [ 170] and apoptosis-associated speck-like protein (ASC) [ 171], and MOAP-1 [ 172] promote Bax conformational change and mitochondrial translocation.
It also serves as a platform for the recruitment of other proteins such as UVRAG (UV radiation resistance-associated gene) [5], BIF-1/Endophilin B1 [8], and ATG14L/Barkor [10] [10] with known functions in autophagy and tumor suppression.
It will be important do determine if other proteins that are part of the BECN1 complex (Atg14L, PIK3R4, UVRAG, Ambra1, Vps15, Bif-1, or Rubicon) are also reduced in AD or in response to BECN1 reduction, respectively, as this could help explain the (possibly indirect) effects of BECN1 reduction on autophagosomal degradation (Fig. 8).

Bax-interacting factor-1 (Bif-1) plays a crucial role in apoptosis and autophagy.
In addition, deletion of various regulators of autophagy, including Bax interacting factor-1 (Bif-1), ultraviolet radiation resistance-associated gene (UVRAG) and Atg4, has been shown to promote the development of spontaneous tumours in mice (8, 9).
It also forms a core complex with PI3K III and it interacts with different activators including UVRAG/Bax-interacting factor-1 (Bif-1), Atg14 (also named Atg14L) and Rubicon (a RUN domain and cysteine-rich domain containing).
Numerous additional binding partners of this complex function as either positive or negative regulators and include BAX-interacting factor-1 (BIF-1), ATG14L, UVRAG (UV irradiation resistance-associated gene), Ambra1 (activating molecule in Beclin-1-regulated autophagy protein 1), and Rubicon [ 23, 26, 29, 35, 36].
