While relatively few studies have measured TWF in humans [13], studies examining body water from animals known to have high TWF, such as dairy cows and hippopotamids [14], [15], suggest that as TWF increases, the isotopic contribution of drinking water also increases, and the δ2H and δ18O of body water approach that of drinking water.
Water intake and urine output data (Fig. 2) indicate that TWF is higher in diabetic STZ mice relative to VEH treated controls.
