The phylogeny of C domain homologues is reconstructed using NRPS sequences (including hybrid NRPS) from completely sequenced genomes (43 genomes contained NRPS) and selected biosynthesis clusters, involving 525 non-identical C domain sequences.
Six bacterial NRPS and three fungal NRPS gene fragments were successful identified by the four PCR screens.
The NRPS contain either a typical NRPS with, minimally, adjacent condensation and adenylation domains or a NRPS-like lacking of condensation domain [ 22, 23].
For twelve strains, these siderophore-associated genes were found close to the NRPS gene leading to the hypothesis that this NRPS gene could likely encode a siderophore-producing NRPS.
All five NRPS gene clusters are co-linear and consist of very similar NRPS and PKS modules.
The complete ORF9 contains three nonribosomal peptide synthetase (NRPS) modules and one polyketide synthase (PKS) module and the ORF11 contains one NRPS module.
Only 6 NRPS genes and 8 hybrid PKS-NRPS are present in M. grisea, whereas 28 NRPS and 12 PKS-NRPS genes are in M. phaseolina.
The C. lunata CX-3 genome encodes similar amounts of NRPS (6), PKS (16) and NRPS-PKS hybrid genes (HYBRID) (2) with C. lunata m118 (5 NRPS, 14 PKS and 2 HYBRID).
Seventeen isolates were positive for NRPS genes.
Pyoverdine is synthesized by non-ribosomal peptide synthetase (NRPS).
