The 3rd generation partnership project (3GPP) has recently published the specifications of a 3G-WLAN interworking architecture [4] and their interworking architecture can be simplified as shown in Figure 1.

It presents an interworking architecture based on a 3G core-level integration of the WLANs.
Most of the assumptions are based on the interworking architecture shown in Figure 1.
The industry have also developed architectures to facilitate interworking between fixed network and the wireless networks [8].
These information-exchange parameters and methods are required for use within each network type and for interworking across network types.
In this paper, hybrid interworking architecture to integrate 3G (UMTS) and WiMAX networks with QoS is proposed.
These include for instance a module taking care of interworking between CoAP/UDP/IP and the ZigBee protocol stack.
The secure channel source is MMT and the destination is Interworking Function (IWF), MIH Information Service (IS) server, and PoS.
It enables multiple communication protocols binding, reuse of existing remote devices management mechanisms, and interworking with existing legacy devices.
Evaluation of various parameters like handover delay, cost of signalling, packet loss,, is done and the performance of the interworking architecture is analysed from the simulation results.
