A fourth defendant, Ieng Sary's wife, Ieng Thirith, an ex-social affairs minister, "was ruled unfit to stand trial because of a degenerative mental illness," Voice of America said.
Next in the dock are the Khmers Rouges' chief ideologue, Nuon Chea, their former head of state, Khieu Samphan, and Ieng Sary and his wife, Ieng Thirith, both ministers in their government.
