This practice has been adapted by the Environmental Working Group EWGG) in their annual Shopper's Guide to Pesticides reports (EWG 2009), in which commonly consumed fruits and vegetables, surveyed by the Total Diet Study, are ranked based on the pesticide residue data published by the PDP.
According to EWG, based in part on this study, scientists at the California Office of Health Hazard Assessment concluded in 2010 that ingestion of tiny amounts of chromium-6 causeause cancer in people.
"The health benefits of a diet rich in fruits and vegetables outweigh the risks of pesticide exposure," the EWG writes in the Shopper's Guide.
