How can I upgrade to a premium plan?

This is very simple: head to the (premium page) and pick up the plan that suits your needs.

We offer monthly, yearly and biennial plans. The longer the payment plan you choose, the better the value for your money.

Depending on the plan and country, we either offer you a 3-days free trial or a 3-days money back to let you try Ludwig thoroughly.

I'm not receiving any invoice from Ludwig!

I'm afraid they might have ended in your spam folder. Check it out and get back to us if you still have troubles with that.

Do you have a special price for students?

80% of Ludwig’s users are students, master students, PhD students, and post-docs. A special price for students would be a special price for everyone, i.e. not so special.

Be aware that if you are a lab or a group of students and are interested in a bulk purchase (at least 10 subscriptions) or an institutional buyer, please reach out to us as we have special deals.

I paid for a yearly subscription but it seems like my account is still free. Help!

Also, double check you are logging in with the correct email address (the same you used for your premium plan). We all have too many emails and might get confused (you wouldn’t be the first to mix up emails).

How can I change my payment method or add a new one?

First, add a new payment method from this page (https://ludwig.guru/account/add-pay-method), then remove the old one from here (https://ludwig.guru/account).

Ludwig billed me twice. What can I do about it?

Payments are collected automatically and in the last three years it never happened. The most likely explanation is that you purchased two different subscriptions with two different accounts. Please contact us and we’ll help you sort things out.

How can I cancel my subscription?

Go to (your account page) and click the “Cancel Subscription” button. It’s a two click process that won’t take you more than 60 sec. Also, we’d appreciate if you could tell us why you are cancelling so that we understand how we could better suit your needs.

We can't wait to have you back. Remember that you can use Ludwig for free up to 8 queries per day and come back to premium every time you need!

I forgot to cancel my subscription in time. Can I ask for a refund?

Unfortunately, once the payment system charges you, our Terms of Service don't allow us to make refunds. As Ludwig subscriptions are automatically renewed, it's important to cancel BEFORE the date when a payment is due.

It’s written everywhere in our Terms of Service, in particular, Article 3.3 states: "LUDWIG WILL NOT REFUND ANY FEES THAT YOU HAVE ALREADY PAID"). Once you cancel, we won't charge you anymore in the future, but this does not affect payments that have already been processed.

We try to be as clear as possible about our payment policies (with the risk to be boring and redundant) and we do care a lot about creating a clear and fair procedure for our users.

When do I need to cancel my Ludwig subscription?

Given that Ludwig subscriptions are automatically renewed, don’t forget to cancel your subscription BEFORE the date when a payment is due.

To make your life easier, for yearly and biennial plans, we’ll send you an email reminder 30 days before the charging actually happens, so that you have enough time to cancel your subscription in case you don’t want to renew it.

After you cancel, you will continue to have access to Ludwig Premium until the purchased period expires.

Technical Troubleshooting

I lost/forgot my Ludwig password. How can I get a new one?

Don’t worry!

In order to recover your password all you have to do is navigate to the forgot password page, insert your registration email and ask for a new password. It’ll take you 5 seconds.

Why is Ludwig slow in China from time to time?

The Great Firewall may hamper our site speed. We are constantly working to make Ludwig faster everywhere, China included. If the response time is unusually slow, please contact us.

I'm seeing only 20 results. What can I do to see 60 results?

Most likely you are not recognized as a premium user. Simply log out, refresh the page, close all Ludwig’s tab and and log back in.

Don’t forget to double check that you are using the right email address, i.e. the same that you associated to your premium account.

How can I cancel my subscription?

The Cancel Subscription button is not showing up

Make sure that you are logged in with the email address you used to subscribe to your premium plan. We all have too many emails and might get confused (you won’t be the first).

I received a coupon code. How do I redeem it?

If you never registered to Ludwig, you’ll have to register first from this page: https://ludwig.guru/register.

Then you’ll be able to redeem your coupon by inserting your coupon code in the following page: https://ludwig.guru/premium/code

Discounted prices coupons are only applied to the first payment. Please be aware that after the first reduced price period expires has expired, your plan will be automatically renewed at the standard rate.

I'm a premium member but Ludwig doesn't recognize me as a premium subscriber

Why Ludwig is not translating into languages other than English

Sorry, we are focused on English writing only. Maybe we’ll start working with other languages in the future and we will let you know!

Ludwig's server doesn't reply (the website redirects me to this messages: "there are no results" or "direct 404)

Try to change browser or hard refresh the page. If the error persists, please contact us, there might be something wrong with our servers and your message could help us to solve the problem soon!

How can I change my email address?

If you wish to change your Ludwig’s main email address, contact us (at [email protected]) from your old address and tell us the new address you wish to use.

Can I use Ludwig offline?

No, Ludwig needs a stable internet connection to analyze your sentences and provide you with examples and suggestions.

Account related issues (e.g. I lost my password)

How can I cancel my account and all the related data?

According to the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) all European have the right to be forgotten. This grants to all European citizens the right to erasure and imposes Ludwig to cancel the data we keep about you when requested to do so. We decided to treat all customers equally and extend the application of GDPR to all Ludwig users regardless of their country.

If you wish to cancel your account, simply drop us a line at [email protected] and we’ll delete your data as soon as possible. It goes without saying that this operation can’t be undone.

MacOS: Why am I getting this message about Ludwig Guru wanting to control my computer?

I understand your concern but there is nothing to worry about. This is why you are getting this message: Ludwig can work only if it is enabled and if the user gives permission to copy from the clipboard and search. Ludwig won't control your computer but needs to use the text you copy to start searching. After MacOS Mojave was released we had compatibility problems with MacOS and this permission has to be granted by the user.

Please, be aware that if you update MacOS, you'll need to grant operation permission to Ludwig.

This is a quick tutorial I wrote to explain how to make the most out of the Desktop App.

We'll try to find a more elegant / less pushy solution in a future release, but unfortunately there is no way around if we want the app to work properly.

Misc

I don’t like paying for a service like Ludwig. Why isn’t Ludwig free?

Andrew Lewis once said: “if you’re not paying for something, you’re not the customer; you’re the product being sold”.

It is true that you can get a lot of valuable information (apparently) for free on Google, Facebook and more. The truth is that those companies are using your private data, your likes, your friend connections, the pages you see, and this is just to create your profile. Such companies then use or sell your data for possibly shady purposes. It's a business model that we don't like. Period.

We have a dumber and more transparent business model. We sell subscriptions to people who see a value in our service. You and other users like you have the power to decide: every time you are in front of the choice to buy or not to buy something, it's as if you were voting with your money about what should exist in the future and what shouldn't. I know that we are so used to getting things for free on the web that paying for things has become unacceptable for some people (luckily not for everyone). It's a matter of choice. Would you like the world to be run only by Facebook, Google, Amazon, WeChat, and Baidu? It's up to you, it's up to us. I respect the opinion of any other person, even if I don't agree.

You are and always be welcome to use Ludwig for free (with its limitations) as much as you like.

P. S. Just in case you were wondering what we do with your data. We anonymize it and use it solely to improve Ludwig’s search results.

Are you Ludwig team all billionaires?

We are a small and independent startup from Italy run by a team of seven people, most likely of your age (35 yo), who are challenging very big companies. Differently from Silicon Valley's startups we are not backed by any venture capital. I want to point out that it was our choice. We wanted to develop Ludwig the way we wanted with the highest degree of freedom. We wanted to have the user at the center, not the money we had to give back to a venture capitalist.

If we want to survive we have to produce enough revenues and to put bread on the table. My two co-founders and I have been working for free for 4 years, before getting a minimum salary. No one has gotten rich with Ludwig so far, but we are doing something we love. We are making English writing easier for everyone in the world and we thank you for being part of this dream.

I love Ludwig’s logo so much! Can I get it tattooed on me?

That’s not a question that is frequently asked but I got it asked once for real. No one loves Ludwig’s logo more than us, but I’d advise against it.

Do you have a mobile app?

Android users can go here, or you can just add Ludwig to your homescreen. iPhone users can follow these instructions.

Do you have Ludwig Dark Mode?

No, we don’t. It’d be a “nice to have” but we have so many other product improvements to work on! Thank you for asking, we write down all the feedback and they all mean a lot to us.

How can I see more than 60 results?

Long story short, at this point in time there is no way to see more than 60 results for one single query.

The reason is that the increased computational cost multiplied by 100k daily searches would crash our servers. As our company grows (we're still a small startup) we are progressively increasing the number of results. When we launched Ludwig in 2016 it only had 20 results. In 2017 we increased to 30 results and in 2019 we reached 60 results. We'll further increase the number of results in the near future. Also, take into account that only 5% of searches scroll beyond the 20th result.

There is a smart way to work around the problem: when I myself need more than 60 results, I slightly change my initial query, by adding another word or by changing the wording so that I’ll have another set of 60 results. Alternatively, I use the search filters to select out a few sources and have more of what I’m interested in.

It is clear to me that if you feel the need of more results, then it means that you are not finding what you were looking for. Is there any specific source language domain (let's say you are an Archaeologist and would like to see more specific Archaeology related examples) that you feel we are missing?
